Random Things about Heirs

Coco and I got caught up on Heirs today. A few non-plot-related notes:

1. Is it a bad sign that with all of the major romantic developments, this is the scene that I enjoyed the most?

2. Maybe I couldn't get more into the other romantic moments because I was insanely distracted by Kim Tan's half of a bolo tie:
I don't understand it, but I also can't stop looking at it.

3. That "Love Is the Moment" song needs to be played at someone's wedding. And then never, ever played again.

That's all. Sometimes, these things just need to be said.

  1. Choi Young Do, you little jerk... O~O

The first two things I never even noticed! :P (But I'm sure quite a few people have noticed that Kim Tan went from...semi-normal style to grandma/grandpa style fairly quickly...)

    1. Yeah, it's like he left all of his normal clothes in the U.S. and had to rummage in thrift stores once he got back to Korea.

    2. Defintely! The wardrobe is sad. It must be the rummage store all the old Korean ladies go! Somebody that rich should have a personal shopper. He was much hotter in the American clothes.

    3. My theory is either LMH lost a bet or is having a major fight with the stylist. I can't think of any other reason for the parrot sweater or the fuzzy pink cardigan.

    4. I feel like they are trying to make him look super rich and chic when it just looks bad. This also happened in Boys over flowers. At least there are no long jackets with fur collars.

    5. I kind of love his wardrobe! Mostly because it's entertaining and I like to see the difference between his Cali style and Korean rich boy style. Seriously though, I can never tell what is actually fashionable in Korea right now based on dramas... so maybe these clothes are really fashionable for rich people?

  3. I went crazy over Tan's fuzzy pink grandma sweater and had to screen shot it to share how hilarious it was with random bystanders (and by bystanders I mean my poor boyfriend who could care less.) Number of hot actors who have worn a fuzzy pink grandma sweater? Exactly one. Our Lee Min Ho. Too much awesome hilarity right there. Fuzzies=literally feeling the sincerity of the hug for Won?

    1. I also paused the show to take a screen shot of that fuzzy sweater! That whole moment kind of felt like the brotherly version of a Kdrama back hug.

    2. The brotherly back hug! Yes!

    3. Sharing the pink sweater screen shot!! I did the same thing to my husband and asked if he wanted one for Christmas. You should have seen the look I got. Then it was, What the hell are you watching?

  4. I've started waving my arms above my head (or my cane) every time I hear that wretched song. It's the only way I can survive :P

Also- it's not quite second lead syndrome, but I get quite annoyed each time Tan breaks up a lunch/snack/time/meeting between Young Do and Eun Sang. Ahhas;ldfj;lkj Just let them talk for a second! He's not going to devour her!! *grumpy*

    1. Young Do might be a terrible person, but Kim Tan barging in always makes things a million times worse! I just want to watch them have ONE full meal together without someone barging in!

  5. Your comment about the music is right on. I also die from the cheesiness every time Tan and Young Do start even verbally fighting and the heavy guitar power chords start up. I get totally distracted and start jokingly pumping my fist or pretend to destroy the room (I do improv comedy so that partly explains my reaction. Maybe? In any case, the music is exceptionally poorly chosen for Heirs.

    1. Oh man, the power chords! There was one scene where there was a muzak version of "Just the Two of Us" playing in the background. I thought my ears were going to start bleeding.

    2. So, American oldies play all the time in Korea? They seem to be in every restaurant scene.

    3. There is another song that song they've played a few times that sounds more like it should be in some porn movie rather than a kdrama...not that I watch porn...it's just what I imagine the music would be like.

    4. I heard the pornish song again during the elevator scene in episode 10.

  6. I hate that song. Hate, that song.

Young Do's, Bo Na, Kim Tan's Mother are my favorites right now seriously all of them are riots in their own way and their dialogue, the best!

    1. I thought I would hate Bo Na, but she has been growing on me! Most improved character so far.

    2. Totally agree. Young Do, Bo Na and Kim Tan's mum are the best so far. Hopefully Young Do's character will grow somehow..

  7. "Love is the moment" and "Maria".
And we thought nothing could beat "Almost Paradise".....

    1. You mean "Maria" from 200 Pounds Beauty? So, so bad. I had that stuck in my head for a week.

    2. Ahah, no the "maria" of Heirs, that was in the ending of the 1st or 2nd episode.

  8. Does anyone else thing Bo Na looks like younger Jennifer Love Hewitt?

    1. I hadn't thought of that, but now that you mention it, I can totally see it. Her mannerisms could totally be from some late '90s teen movie!

  9. Is anyone else a bit disturbed/distracted by the bright pink lipstick they use on pretty much ALL the characters? lol

  10. Pretty much all the songs in kdramas are terrible--at least to me. It is one of the things I've truly come to love! I hate certain songs, but once the show is over and I go back and listen to the OST all the feelings from the drama come rushing back. Even though the music isn't great in Heirs, I have to admit I will probably still love it in the end.

  11. You guys are high-larious! Sounds like 'Heirs' is more of a comedy than anything!
    So would you recommend it?

    1. To be honest, it's not great so far. It has some funny and cute moments, but it also has some big problems in the writing.

  12. I started watching Heirs because Yoon Jin-seo was in it, but her part is not that great. I may give it another chance.

  13. Ummm, I think Tan is wearing something that we call a necklace, not a bolo tie...
Bolo ties aren't all metal; they're made of cords or braided leather, with decorative metal tips and an ornamental front clasp...
    He's wearing a necklace...

    1. Haha, I know. It just really reminds me of half of one with the cords missing in front. Something about the round part in front and the way he's wearing it over a fully-buttoned collared shirt...

  14. Kim Woo Bin steals this whole show in my opinion. He's the only reason I'm still watching the darn thing. Which cracks me up because I started watching because of Lee Min Ho. Even though it's not good I still watch. Am I pathetic or what?

  15. I kinda of really really REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY love Heirs. I know I am alone here but it makes me so happy, like shouting at the tv, smiling like a dummy, and laughing like a crazy person. But it kinda makes me happy that no one else likes it because that means there is better kdramas then this one I AM FREAKING IN! Now I love making fun of the fact they only have like 3 songs they replay and that AWFUL PINK LIPGLOSS on everyone its like ...too much to handle but I love Young Do dude! Makes my heart melt and I love how Kim Tan's character is developing but I am okay with agreeing to disagree.

    1. I'm with you. I make fun of the music, the terrible sweaters, the lipgloss, etc., but I'm totally hooked. Every time Yong Do smiles, I want to forgive his abusive tendancies. Also I like the humor like the joke about the kidneys. Most of the kdramas seem to be missing some of that.
